Install Dagger
This documentation is for an older version of Dagger, which is no longer actively maintained.
We encourage you to upgrade and refer to the documentation for the most current version.
If you cannot upgrade to the latest version, please contact us in the help forum on Discord. When contacting us, please let us know why you cannot move to the latest version. From there, our team will work with you on your use case.
- Dagger requires Docker to be installed and running.
Option 1 (Mac OS and Linux): Use Homebrew
From a terminal, run the following command:
brew install dagger/tap/dagger
If dagger is already installed, you can upgrade it using this command:
brew update
brew upgrade dagger
Option 2 (Mac OS and Linux): Run a shell script
From a terminal, run the following command:
curl -sfL https://releases.dagger.io/dagger/install.sh | sh
You now have the dagger binary in the local directory under ./bin/dagger
.
You can also install it globally on your system:
curl -sfL https://releases.dagger.io/dagger/install.sh | sudo BIN_DIR=/usr/local/bin sh
or
curl -sfLo install.sh https://releases.dagger.io/dagger/install.sh; sudo BIN_DIR=/usr/local/bin sh ./install.sh
Option 2 (Windows): Run a shell script
From a terminal, run the following command:
curl https://releases.dagger.io/dagger/install.ps1 -OutFile install.ps1 ; ./install.ps1; rm install.ps1
We try to move the dagger binary under C:\Windows\System32
but
in case use missing the necessary permission we'll save everything under <your home folder>/dagger
Option 3: Download a binary release
Open your web browser to the latest release.
From the assets section, download the archive corresponding to your OS and Arch.
Option 4: Install from source
You will need Go version 1.18 or later.
1. Clone the dagger repository
git clone https://github.com/dagger/dagger.git
2. Build the dagger
binary.
cd dagger; make dagger
3. Copy the dagger
tool to a location listed in your $PATH
. For example, to copy it to /usr/local/bin
:
